FAQs
What exactly is a dance convention?
1
Think of a dance convention as an intensive "masterclass" weekend. Instead of competing for trophies, dancers spend the day submerged in diverse styles taught by world-class educators and industry professionals. It’s an opportunity to learn new techniques, get inspired by peers from other studios, and experience the professional side of the dance industry in a supportive, high-energy environment.
How should my dancer prepare in the days leading up to ZGX?

Success starts before you even enter the ballroom! We recommend:
Nutrition: Focus on "clean" fueling (complex carbs and proteins) 2–3 days before the event. Avoid heavy, greasy foods that might cause sluggishness.
Hydration: Start increasing water intake 48 hours prior.
Rest: A full night of sleep (8+ hours) the night before is essential for muscle recovery and mental focus.
To maximize dance time, we no longer hold photo sessions after individual classes. Instead, we host a dedicated Faculty Meet & Greet during the lunch break. Faculty will be at designated ZGX tables to sign autographs and take pictures so that class time remains focused on dancing!

We are looking for dancers ages 12+ who show initiative, positivity, and a desire to lead. We aren't just looking for the "best" dancer; we are looking for the best role models to help make our ballrooms an inspiring place for everyone. Apply via the link on our homepage!
What should my dancer bring in their dance bag?

We highly recommend Journaling before the event! Have your dancer write down:
Three goals: What are they most looking forward to learning?
A Reset Plan: How will they handle moments of exhaustion or over-stimulation? (e.g., "I will take three deep breaths and remember I am here for the experience.")
Positive Affirmations: Remind them that ZGX is a safe space to take risks and grow at their own pace.

Why don't you award scholarships?
At ZGX, we believe every dancer’s journey is valuable. Instead of awarding a few select scholarships, we reinvest those funds into an elite faculty and a 6-class curriculum for every dancer in the building. Our goal is to provide 100% of the value to 100% of the room.
No. We have removed "select groups" to eliminate the competitive pressure that often distracts from learning. Our faculty is trained to observe and celebrate the entire room, ensuring every dancer feels seen and supported from the first warm-up to the final combo.

The ZGX day begins with a collective, high-energy warm-up for all dancers. The curriculum then unfolds into three morning masterclasses, followed by our signature Faculty Meet & Greet and a restful lunch break. The experience concludes with three final afternoon sessions. With this new structure, every age division—Mini, Junior, and Senior—benefits from 6 full hours of elite instruction and an extended midday break designed for optimal recovery and nutrition.

Who can apply for the ZGX Assistant Team?
Preparation is key to staying focused! Please pack:
All the Shoes: Bring every pair of dance shoes you own (Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Sneakers, etc.).
Reusable Water Bottle: We are committed to sustainability and health; we provide refillable water stations throughout the venue to keep dancers hydrated.
Healthy Snacks: Pack "brain food" that won't leave a mess—think apple slices, protein bars, or grapes. Avoid high-sugar snacks that lead to a "crash" mid-afternoon.

How can my dancer stay mentally prepared for such a long day?
Do you call out small groups at the end of class?

We want you to feel confident and capable! Dancers are encouraged to wear any dancewear they feel comfortable and empowered in. Whether it’s a leotard and tights or trendy streetwear/activewear, ensure it allows for a full range of motion. (Pro-tip: Layers are great for when the ballrooms transition from chilly to high-heat!)
